D’MARIE

We started the day off with a little brunch and by my standards, anytime you start the day off with brunch it’s already a perfect day. The streets of New York were glistening as snowflakes fell from the sky and settled on coats, buildings and noses. It was a bit windy so layering was a must, to be honest I’m surprised my coat even zipped up over my long-sleeved shirt, sweater and faux fur vest.

After our first photo shoot of the day, we met Frank Spadafora for brunch. For those of you that don’t know Frank is the CEO of D’Marie Group Inc. You may have previously seen a post to my Facebook timeline, or a tweet about shopping my look. You could definitely say that D’Marie is the IMBD for fashion. What I enjoy about dmariearchive.com is how easy it is to create shoppable content. As a fashion blogger it is easy for me to upload a picture and tag my garments through D’Marie’s extensive fashion database. After that I can encourage others to see, shop and share my look through Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook and so much more!

For my blogger friends I highly suggest giving it a go, not only can I track sales, but D’Marie offers a snapshot of analytics for all of my social media which is great when companies inquire about a collaboration. It all comes down to the numbers ladies and gents.

During my interview with Frank I asked;

J: What is D’Marie all about?

FS: Integrating social media to advertising and casting decisions has become a focal point for retailers and designers. To date, talent agencies lack effective tools to publish content and then measure its reach and engagement on social channels e.g, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and personal style blogs.  Brands are using makeshift systems to collect online and social media statistics making it impossible to create industry standard tools to measure, manage and monetize social media usage.

Our platform is a large-scale crediting system for garments and individuals as they appear in media. D’Marie subscribers, including talent agencies, modeling agencies and retailers, have access to a suite of digital tools that produces a streamlined measurement of their social media audience to report proprietary analytics for public relations, casting and advertising decision-making. The D’Marie image-publishing tool enables these influencers to publish “fashion credits” (i.e. images embedded with garment url links as well as our ‘code’). Retailers and brand subscribers can utilize these fashion credits to analyze their current and up-and-coming brand influencers via the analytics, they also have access to individual garment social and sales metrics. This public archive of credits also allows consumers to see, shop and share their favorite looks.

J: What inspires you?

FS: I gain inspiration from the individuals I work with in the fashion industry, especially our clients at D’Marie. I love strong personalities and I’ve had the great fortune to meet plenty of them. I’m also re-reading MODEL by Michael Gross which is about the history of the modeling industry. I feel like too many models and agents don’t know how the business got started and the industry formed into what it is today.

J: Why D’Marie?

FS: I created the initial concept for D’Marie’s technology while returning from a photo shoot in Los Angeles. The client was upset that the Stylist didn’t have accurate credits detailing which model was wearing what clothing. I did some research and found that most stylists were using excel sheets or custom solutions with outdated technology. Then over the years we grew as a business and expanded the technology to help the modeling agencies manage and measure their model’s social media portfolios. This allowed us to create the industry standard pricing calculation for “social usage”. The entire business was built out of necessity for the projects I was working on. Turns out there were thousands of others who were also running into the same problems.

J: Do you have any advice for those just starting out in business, blogging or modeling?

FS: My advise for any model (not that I think I am the best person to be shelling out advise) would be to stay realistic. If you want to be a model but you’re 5’6, you’re probably not going to get the gig. For bloggers, I suggest taking risks. There are over 110K fashion and beauty blogs. Identify what makes you unique and turn that up 100%.

J: D’Marie is more than just an outlet for fashion bloggers and businesses, How do you think D’Marie will make a difference in the way we view and use technology?

FS: I think the future of FashionTech is in data standardization and privacy. As a society we’ve adopted so many social networking platforms that are all about creating and publishing content online. It’s great! However, I think we’ve hit some privacy boundaries that are making people uncomfortable online. If retailers are smart they will not over do it with invading the online privacy of their consumers. Also, negotiating social media usage for influencers is like the wild west, everyone is guessing about how to charge for it and just hoping they strike gold. Our goal at D’Marie is the provide a standard calculation that can hopefully balance the conversation.

J: What is a trend you never want to see worn again.

FS: Tie-Dye

J: Last piece of clothing you bought.

FS:  Uniqlo sweater

J: Something you wish more people did.

FS: Say, “Thank you”.

J: Something you wish more people knew.

FS: I wish more people knew about Isabella Blow’s life.
