DETOX

For the past three days I’ve been doing a three day lol irrelevant detox with juices and smoothies. I’ve been documenting the journey on my snapchat [missjodik] and for those of you following along I hope you are not only pleased with the results but feel amazing like I do! A three day detox is the perfect way to feel revitalized. While on my health journey I have been cutting out so many things year after year and I am always happy with my decision. As I grow stronger and healthier I feel amazing and I hope you decide to give a detox a try if you haven’t yet.

My biggest issue has always been and still is AND probably forever will be azucar…sugar. It’s everywhere even in my “healthy” snacks and when I’m detoxing that is something I’m trying to take a break from, as well as oil, saturated fats, too many carbohydrates and the list goes on. The granola and fruit that I use already has carbs and natural sugars in it, so to me even more added sugar is a no no which is why I generally like to make my smoothies with a low sugar fruit drink, coconut milk, silk milk or almond milk.

My go to recently has been Edit Fruit Juice, which I’m happy to say is the first and only 100% Fruit Juice that has been de-sugared. It contains only 1 gram of sugar and with 40 calories or less in each bottle, it’s completely guilt free. This is perfect for us fitness fanatics because as we know too much sugar/fructose gets stored as fat and trying to slim down can be hard if we aren’t fueling our body correctly.

As you know I’ve previously blogged about the importance of reading food labels and I’m so happy that all the ingredients are simple and hellooooo easy to pronounce!

My absolute favourite is the Apple juice and it tasted great with the fruit smoothies I made during my detox. Read on for the ingredients I used!

Delicious smoothies to try

Day 1:

On Day 1 I indulged in berries all day. This right here is a blueberry, raspberry and blackberry smoothie.

I used vanilla coconut milk and one scoop of soy protein powder. (For a snack smoothie I used the same berries but used Edit grape juice and mixed with ice instead see below)

I then garnished my smoothie with extra frozen berries and chia seeds for added protein and one scoop of fiber to help keep me full longer.

*Did you know that chia seeds are loaded with nutrients that are great for your body and brain?

Check out a few of these chia facts below!

  • 11 grams of fiber
  • 4 grams of protein
  • 9 grams of fat and 5 of those are Omega-3s
  • Calcium: 18% of the required daily amount

Day 2

Day two I needed something a bit heavier, they say the first day is the hardest but for me, day two is when it really hits me. Don’t worry though because Day 3 feels amazing that’s when all the health benefits for me kick in.

I went heavy on the bananas and light on the strawberries. I used two scoops of vanilla soy protein powder because I had a weightlifting class on Tuesday and fasted workouts are already hard enough.

I garnished with a vanilla berry oat and granola mix.

Snacks:

This is an example of a smoothie made with Edit Apple Juice, it was supposed to be a guava smoothie but it ended up being a bit more than that. It was so tasty mmm happy mistake.

I used guava, watermelon (even though I don’t much care for it as a whole fruit) and few strawberries and used a low calorie fruit juice as my base.

Then because I skipped the soy protein powder I garnished with a lot of chia seeds to get that protein in!
Day 3

On day three I was dreaming about what I would be eating the next day (which so happens to be today, so happy for Thursday hehe).

Although I was staying pretty full by making nutrient packed smoothies, I was also hitting the gym pretty hard this week so I was ready for a little more. In celebration I made this berry medley smoothie which included (deep breath);

Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and blackberries. #alltheberries

I added two and a half scoops of vanilla soy protein powder, this day I worked out twice (hello two-a-days) and garnished with a lot of fruit so I could have a yummy snack at the bottom of my smoothie as well as chia seeds because, one it makes for one heck of an Instagram picture.

All in all my tummy is flatter which is not the only reason I did it, but I feel amazing! So light and not bogged down. There is a right and wrong way to do things and I was able to continue my workout regimen without ever feeling faint or not strong enough. I like to do this about every other month or anytime I’m feeling too bloated and need energy.

So happy to see all the screenshots on my snapchat and I hope you enjoy these smoothie ideas! If you missed it have no fear because I’m always snapping healthy meal ideas and sharing easy workouts there at missjodik. The benefits that detoxes provide are endless and I’m always happy with the end result. Mind over matter!

See below for a few yummy cocktails to try for my 21 and over readers. 1. I’ve been doing low-carb for awhile now and weening myself off of my fixation on sugar, and you’re totally right — sugar hides in so many things! Love a good detox 🙂
